How to announce your engagement

engagement

If you recently got engaged it’s likely that you’re still feeling excited. Whether you were proposed to, or it was you who popped the question, this is such a special time for you both.

Now that you’ve had some time together to enjoy this big step in your relationship, it’s time to think about how you’ll tell family and friends. The best thing about this is, there are no rules. The way you announce your engagement is completely up to you.

However, if you’re searching for some creative ideas, read on. We’ve rounded up some fun, memorable, and downright lovely ways to let everyone you love know about this milestone.

But first…

A note before you do announce your engagement. Check that you’re not about to overshadow a loved one’s important event. Maybe plan around their special moment so that it doesn’t overlap.

Also, is there anyone who you want to hold off telling for now? Think about how you’ll avoid getting the news to them and make sure you let your partner know what the plan is so that you’re both avoiding any issues that could come up.

Once you know when you want to tell everyone, you can focus on how you’re going to do it.

Use social media

If you have family and friends that are spread out across the map, why not channel Jennifer Lopez and create a video to upload to social media? When you’re happy with it, you can create your own groups to send the video to on social media.

You could keep things simple. Maybe you and your partner could hold up a sign with the announcement on and then you could show off your engagement ring to the camera. Alternatively, if you’re a creative duo, you might want to do something fun like a dance routine. This is a great opportunity to make it very ‘you’ as a couple.

Have a photoshoot

A photoshoot is a lovely way to let people know you’re set to marry. There are several upsides to this idea.

First, it’s an opportunity to find a photographer that could be the one you choose for your wedding day. This is a brilliant chance to test the chemistry you have with them and to see if they can capture how you both are as a couple.

Second, you can make this totally tailored to you. You can get dressed up and pose before sharing the images that capture your love with others.

Get the kids involved

If you have children of your own why not get them to announce it for you? Alternatively, if you have nieces or nephews, check it’s ok for them to be part of your engagement with their parents and then see if they can help out. Maybe they could draw you a sign and hold it up or announce it out loud for you in a short clip?

What ideas will you try? How creative will you get?
